Maker Share was introduced in June 2017 as an online place for makers to show projects, meet other makers, and contribute skills to collaborative challenges. Dale Dougherty’s launch invitation described a community built around profiles, project portfolios, short video demonstrations, and Missions. It documents what the platform proposed at launch—not whether Maker Share still operates or accepts registrations today.
What was Maker Share?
In a June 2017 announcement, Make: founder Dale Dougherty called Maker Share a “show and tell” hub for makers to share projects and discover opportunities to learn, connect, and contribute. The article said the project was developed with Intel and aimed to connect makers around the world, including people who had not exhibited at Maker Faires. Read Dougherty’s launch announcement at Make:
The idea was to make a maker’s work and interests visible to a wider community, then use that community to support learning and collaborative problem-solving. The announcement is a historical description; it does not establish current operating status, registration access, or the availability of old project pages.
How makers were invited to participate
Create a profile and project portfolio
The launch article invited people to register as makers, create profiles, and add projects to a portfolio that reflected their interests and identity. These features were presented as ways to show what a person makes and help others discover their work.

Ideal for property managers, remodeling contractors, apartment turnover crews, maintenance teams, and commercial painting operations. Backed by thousands of verified reviews from working painters. Washable and reusable for multiple projects.
Record a Show and Tell
Dougherty described a video demonstration of about two minutes as a way to introduce a project. He wrote: “A good ‘show-and-tell’ explains what you made and how you made it but should also talk about why you made it.” That three-part prompt—what, how, and why—was the announcement’s practical guide to presenting a project.
Connect beyond local maker events
Maker Share was presented as a way to find makers beyond the people someone might meet at a local event or Maker Faire. The intended benefit was geographic reach: makers could encounter projects and people from elsewhere, rather than being limited to those who attended the same gatherings.

Contribute to Missions
