Christmas cartoons range from half-hour TV specials and vintage shorts to stop-motion favorites and feature-length adaptations. For a classic Peanuts story, start with A Charlie Brown Christmas; for Dickens with Disney characters, try Mickey’s Christmas Carol. The best choice depends on whether you want a brief nostalgic special, comedy, an adaptation, or a longer family film—and streaming availability can vary by country and season.
What counts as a Christmas cartoon?
The label covers several kinds of viewing, not one specific format: short animated films, half-hour holiday specials, Christmas episodes of ongoing series, and feature-length animation. Some are original holiday stories; others adapt familiar books or characters. That variety matters when choosing: a short special fits a quick family viewing, while a feature can anchor a longer movie night.

For a broad sense of the category, an About Amazon holiday guide describes a two-hour “Christmas Cartoons” marathon of 14 holiday classics, including “Christmas Comes but Once a Year,” “The Candlemaker,” and “Toys Will Be Toys.” The page is an editorial guide, not confirmation that those titles are currently streaming.
Classic Christmas cartoons to start with
A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965)
This half-hour Peanuts special follows Charlie Brown as he struggles with the commercial side of Christmas. Lucy puts him in charge of the gang’s holiday play; he chooses an unexpected tree, and Linus offers a message about the meaning of the season. Vince Guaraldi’s music is part of the specials’ familiar sound. The official Peanuts holiday-specials page describes the story and directs viewers to Apple TV.

Mickey’s Christmas Carol (1983)
Disney’s animated adaptation of Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol casts Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and other familiar characters in the story of Scrooge learning kindness and generosity. Disney lists its release date as December 16, 1983, and classifies it as animation, family, and holiday. It’s a useful pick when you want a classic story in a compact animated form.

Stop-motion holiday favorites
If you’re looking for the old Christmas cartoons associated with Rudolph and Frosty, stop-motion specials are a natural place to look. An About Amazon holiday guide lists Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, Santa Claus Is Comin’ to Town, and The Little Drummer Boy among its stop-motion programs. That list identifies examples of the style, but does not establish their current streaming availability.
How to choose a cartoon for family viewing
Use the format and tone to match the occasion rather than treating any list as a definitive ranking. The titles above offer different viewing experiences:
- For a short, familiar special: A Charlie Brown Christmas is a half-hour program centered on a holiday play and Charlie Brown’s concern about commercialism.
- For a classic-story adaptation: Mickey’s Christmas Carol retells Dickens’s story with Disney characters.
- For nostalgic stop-motion: Search for Rudolph, Frosty, or the other stop-motion programs named above, then confirm the format and listing for the version you find.
- For a longer movie night: Look beyond television specials to feature-length animated holiday films. A title’s inclusion in a past holiday collection is not proof that it remains in a service’s catalog.
For children, check the specific title and version before pressing play: the cited descriptions establish genre, format, or premise, but do not provide a complete age-rating guide. A “family” classification is useful context, not a substitute for checking the rating and content details in your country.

Where to watch Christmas cartoons
As of October 4, 2026, Apple’s September 2026 holiday announcement lists A Charlie Brown Christmas as available on Apple TV, and the Peanuts official page also points viewers there. Apple’s October 1, 2025 announcement said its Peanuts streaming partnership was extended through 2030 and that subscribers could watch the specials year-round. That announcement’s free viewing dates—December 13 and 14—applied to 2025 only; check for a current season’s offer rather than assuming the same dates recur.
Availability is not established here for every country, subscription tier, or other title. Disney’s holiday collection announcement dates to 2021, so it is historical evidence of Disney’s seasonal selection, not a current Disney+ catalog guide. Before choosing a service, search its catalog in your region and check the listing date, subscription requirement, and whether a free seasonal window is actually active.
