This cyberpunk corset is a documented maker costume build: 3D-printed spikes are attached to fabric, while wearable electronics animate NeoPixel lighting when the wearer moves. It is a project tutorial, not a commercially available finished corset or a garment shown to be production-ready.
How the printed-fabric corset is constructed
In AmieDD’s Cyberpunk Corset project tutorial, printed spikes are attached to conventional fabric rather than printed directly onto it. The electronics add movement-responsive light: the Circuit Playground detects a shake gesture and controls a NeoPixel strip. Separate shoulder pieces use surface-mount LEDs, a push button and a CR2016 coin cell.

This distinction matters if you are asking whether spikes can simply be 3D-printed “onto” fabric. This example documents printing the parts separately and attaching them to fabric. Other research has explored fabric-like printed structures and connectors, but that is a different construction technique.

These are the tutorial’s listed components, not a universal bill of materials for every corset or a confirmation of current product availability. The creator’s electronics upload note is specific: “Make sure your Micro USB Cable is for data transfer, some micro usb cables are just for charging and don’t transfer data, you won’t be able to upload the code to the Circuit Playground.”

The tutorial reports these settings for its own build:
- Layer height: 0.2 mm
- Shell wall: 1 mm
- Wall lines: three
- Infill: 10%
- Print speed: 50 mm/s

A related option: removable light-up spikes
Adafruit’s Cyberpunk Spikes guide describes a related wearable-lighting design, not the same corset. Its approach uses flexible NinjaFlex spikes to diffuse light and makes the spikes attachable to clothing or accessories. The guide specifies a Gemma-family wearable microcontroller, 60-LED-per-meter NeoPixel strip, 500 mAh LiPo battery, slide switch, JST extension, magnets and sewing or attachment supplies.

The Adafruit materials and power components are an alternative design, not parts to silently substitute into the corset’s documented build. A modular attachment may make it easier to separate spikes and electronics from clothing, while the corset tutorial is the direct reference for its own fabric-mounted construction.

What published material research does—and does not—show
A 2013 design research paper describes testing flexible printable material with a textile tensile-test method and making both a corselet and a corset, along with a connector intended to join materials. This shows that fabric-like printed structures and corset forms have been explored; it does not establish the performance or safety of this costume.
A peer-reviewed study on direct-ink-written 3D-printed conductive fabrics evaluates conductivity, washability and abrasion resistance, but its reported subject is not this corset. Those properties cannot be assumed for a costume made from the components in AmieDD’s tutorial. Separately, a Raspberry Pi LED-jacket project resource describes printing a flexible 3D appliqué directly onto fabric—another construction route, not the method documented for these spikes.

The available project description does not provide a standards-based electrical or garment safety assessment, thermal testing, skin-contact evaluation, verified battery-enclosure guidance or validated washing instructions for the completed corset. It therefore does not establish that the garment is safe, washable, comfortable or durable. Treat it as a documented costume build rather than a tested wearable product, and do not infer those qualities from the use of flexible filament or prior textile research.
