You can turn Easter eggs into fandom-inspired decorations with paint, paper details, or a confetti-filled surprise. Nickelodeon’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle example uses a painted egg with a character mask made from paper—or painted directly on the shell—while Sanrio’s Gudetama project adds confetti inside a hollow egg. For a Dalek, use the same general approach as an original design idea: paint the egg and add simple geometric details.
Choose a character-egg approach
Start with the level of detail and kind of finished piece you want. A surface-decorated egg is the simpler route; a hollow confetti egg adds a separate filling and sealing step.
- Paper details: Attach cut-paper shapes when you want a raised or clearly defined mask.
- Painted details: Paint the design directly on the shell for a flatter finish without separate paper pieces.
- Confetti-filled egg: Hollow the egg, add confetti, seal the opening with tissue paper and glue, then decorate the outside.

Make a Ninja Turtle Easter egg
What you’ll need
- An egg or reusable craft egg
- Paint and a brush
- Paper for the mask, or paint to make the mask directly on the egg
- Googly eyes, as used in Nickelodeon’s example
- Scissors and craft glue if you choose paper details
How to decorate it
- Paint the egg and let the surface dry before adding the face details.
- Cut a mask shape from paper and attach it, or paint the mask onto the shell.
- Add the eyes. If using googly eyes, attach them securely with craft glue.
- Let all paint and glue dry before displaying the egg.
The paper-mask and painted-mask options are both supported by Nickelodeon’s example; neither is identified as better. Choose paper for an attached shape or paint for a design applied directly to the egg.

Try an original Dalek-inspired design
The sources for these projects do not provide a Dalek-specific tutorial, so this is an original design suggestion rather than a publisher-tested method. Use a reusable display egg or a hollowed, cleaned shell intended for decoration. Paint a bold base color, then add a contrasting band and small repeated geometric marks to suggest the Dalek’s mechanical panels. Work with a fine brush or marker for the small details, and let each layer dry before adding the next. Keep the design simple enough to fit the curved surface.
For any fandom design, treat small shapes as visual shorthand rather than trying to reproduce every detail: a mask and eyes can make a recognizable turtle-themed egg, while a few deliberate bands and repeated marks can convey a robotic look.

Make Gudetama confetti eggs
Materials
Sanrio lists craft paint, brushes, a marker, confetti, cardstock, tissue paper, a small foam brush, scissors, craft glue, washi tape, and paper grass for its Gudetama confetti egg project. Read Sanrio’s Gudetama confetti egg tutorial.
Method
- Hollow out the egg.
- Fill it with confetti.
- Cover the opening with tissue paper and craft glue.
- Wait until the glue has dried, then paint the egg.
- Use the listed paper, marker, tape, and other decoration supplies to finish the design.
This is a different kind of project from a painted display egg: the egg has an opening that is sealed after filling. Sanrio’s tutorial describes the order of those steps but does not establish a drying time.

Use craft materials for display eggs, not food
Nickelodeon and Sanrio describe craft projects, not food-safety practices. Their tutorials do not establish that ordinary craft paint, markers, glue, or confetti eggs are safe to eat. Treat decorated eggs made with these materials as display crafts. If you plan to eat eggs, consult separate authoritative food-safety guidance and do not assume craft supplies are suitable for edible use.
Acrylic craft paint is a relevant category to look for when choosing paint for reusable display eggs; the cited tutorials do not recommend a brand or verify a particular product listing.
