How to keep renovation dust contained
Dust precautions deserve particular attention if the home was built before 1978 and work may disturb painted surfaces. The EPA says older homes are more likely to contain lead-based paint, and activities such as sanding, cutting, or replacing windows can create hazardous lead dust. The home’s age and the work being done in this dining room are not established, so these precautions are conditional rather than a claim that lead is present.
If the work is DIY

If a contractor is doing applicable paid work
For applicable paid renovation work that disturbs lead paint in pre-1978 housing, firms must be certified and follow lead-safe work practices. EPA recommends homeowners use a certified contractor for this type of work. The requirements depend on the work and housing context; they are not a blanket rule for every renovation.
