Rather than mislabel patterns, this guide shows you where to find printable cat designs, how to choose a suitable pattern, and how to print, transfer, carve, or etch it safely.

These are cat-pattern collections, not a verified gallery of 14 distinct breeds. The sources identify a Maine Coon design, but do not establish the full breed list implied by a 14-breed title.
Choose a pattern that suits your pumpkin and skill level
For a first carving
Start with a bold silhouette or a simple face with generous spaces between its cut lines. Narrow gaps and tiny islands of pumpkin are more difficult to cut cleanly and can weaken the remaining design.

Faces, full-body cats, and peeking kittens offer more expression, but their smaller shapes need careful transfer and slower cutting. VectorDad reports that its connected-skin checks apply across its set, but only 13 of its 16 patterns work at every listed size; inspect the chosen design at the intended print size.
Cut through or scrape?
A cut-through opening removes the pumpkin wall and lets light show through. Scraping removes only the outer skin, leaving the flesh in place; the thinner area glows differently without becoming a hole. Follow the stencil’s labels rather than treating every marked region as a cutout. Trupanion’s pattern distinguishes “Scrape Skin” from “Cut Through.”
Print the stencil at a size that fits
- Open the pattern file and check the print preview. For Nikki’s Plate’s landscape US Letter pages, use the page orientation shown by the template.
- Choose actual size if the design should print at the template’s dimensions. If the pumpkin’s flat carving area is smaller, select a custom scale that fits; check the preview so the pattern does not run off the printable area.
- Print on regular paper if you need it to bend around the pumpkin more easily. Cardstock is sturdier but harder to wrap around a curved surface.
- Before carving, hold the printed pattern against the pumpkin to confirm it fits the area you plan to use.
Transfer the design onto the pumpkin
- Clean the pumpkin, then thin the wall from the inside where the design will go. A less-thick wall is easier to cut or scrape, but avoid thinning so much that the design loses support.
- Trim excess paper around the pattern. If the sheet resists the curve, make small snips from its edges toward the design so the paper can lie flatter without cutting into the printed lines.
- Place the stencil on a dry pumpkin and secure it with tape. Smooth the paper as much as the curve allows.
- Use a pin or poker to prick along the stencil lines, piercing the paper and marking the pumpkin. Keep the marks close enough together to follow curves accurately.
- Remove the paper and connect the prick marks with a washable marker if that helps you see the cutting path.
Carve or etch the pattern
- Follow the stencil key: scrape marked skin areas shallowly, and cut through only where the pattern calls for an opening.
- Work from the smallest interior details toward the larger outlines. This leaves more pumpkin supporting the design while you handle its fragile sections.
- Use a small carving saw with gentle back-and-forth strokes. Avoid forcing the blade or twisting it sharply at corners.
- Push cut pieces outward from inside the pumpkin rather than levering them against the design’s narrow edges.
- Check the effect with a battery-operated LED tea light. Adjust scraped areas or clear remaining pulp if the light is uneven.
Trupanion’s instructions similarly recommend attaching the guide, pricking along its lines, and then connecting the dots before carving.

Keep the carving process safer
- Adults should handle carving tools. Children can choose a pattern or help with supervised paper placement and transfer, away from cutting tools.
- Use controlled strokes and carve on a stable surface. Keep hands out of the blade’s path.
- Use a battery-operated LED tea light to illuminate the finished pumpkin instead of an open flame.
