A “haunted house Halloween table topper” can mean either a freestanding miniature scene for a table or a fabric or paper covering with Halloween designs. If you want the house itself to be the centerpiece, build a small structure from cardboard or foam, decorate it, and optionally add battery-operated tea lights behind the windows. If you mean a textile topper or runner, choose a sewing pattern instead; it is a different project.

Build a freestanding haunted-house centerpiece
There is no single required supply list: published projects use different bases and decorations. A cardboard-box design can use a box with an attached lid, corrugated coffee sleeves, vellum, decorative paper, felt, small clothespins, wood sticks, black and orange acrylic paint, marker, plastic Halloween figures and hot glue. Gina Tepper’s project describes these materials for its tabletop decoration; adapt the list to the shape and details you want rather than treating every item as essential. A foam-based haunted mansion is another option. Plaid Crafts lists foam blocks and sheet, black chenille stems, fences, cheesecloth, faux spider web, spiders, wiggle eyes, craft sticks, tape, brushes, a craft knife, hot glue and a ruler for its centerpiece project. Plan the structure before decorating
- Choose a stable base that fits the space where the display will sit. Cardboard and foam are both used in the cited projects, but neither source supplies a universal finished size.
- Decide whether the house will be one box-like form or a group of towers and other shapes. Crayola’s project uses cardboard as a base, construction-paper towers and cone roofs, then adds paint, markers and modeled decorations. See Crayola’s Halloween Haunted House instructions.
- Arrange doors, windows and larger decorations before gluing. Leave any openings accessible if you plan to put lights inside.
Add a window glow, if wanted
Crayola lists battery-operated tea lights among the supplies and directs readers to place them inside towers with windows. Use that approach if illumination is part of your design; the project provides a craft instruction, not a broader performance or safety certification. Check that your chosen light fits inside the finished structure and follow its own product directions.

Choose a textile alternative if you want a fabric topper
A runner or quilted topper covers the table; it does not create a three-dimensional haunted house. Yarnspirations offers a free beginner ghost table-runner pattern with a listed finished size of 13½ × 52 inches. Match the project to your table and available time
- Choose a miniature scene if you want the haunted house itself to be the focal point and are comfortable cutting, painting and gluing craft materials.
- Choose a textile pattern if you want a flat covering and prefer to sew from a pattern. Check the pattern’s dimensions against your table before starting.
- Plan for lights early if you want glowing windows, since openings and interior space need to accommodate the battery-operated tea lights.
- Keep the display footprint in mind: the cited freestanding projects do not give finished dimensions, so measure your available table space and size the base accordingly.
Crayola’s page gives age guidance including “8 and up,” alongside other age bands, and includes drying-time instructions.
