An “hourglass pillow” is not a standardized product category. In some retail listings, the phrase describes the indented inner contour of a U-shaped pregnancy pillow. If you are shopping for that kind of full-body support, search for “U-shaped pregnancy pillow” and compare the actual product’s size, materials, and care instructions—not just its shape label.

What is an hourglass pillow?
The term is used in some pregnancy-pillow listings to describe an hourglass-like contour inside a U-shaped body pillow. It does not identify one consistent design, size, or intended use. One retail listing and another illustrate the variation: one describes a 60 × 38 × 7-inch pillow, while the other lists dimensions of 90 × 145 cm. Those are seller-provided specifications for individual products, not category-wide standards.

For a clearer search, use “U-shaped pregnancy pillow” or “contoured maternity body pillow.” Some listings say their shape supports both sides, the back, or the tummy; treat such language as the seller’s description rather than proof of a particular comfort or health benefit.

How to compare an hourglass-style pregnancy pillow
Check the product details that affect whether a particular pillow suits your bed and care preferences:
- Shape and coverage: Confirm whether it is U-shaped and what areas the listing says it supports. Shape names alone do not establish how much of your body a pillow will cover.
- Dimensions: Compare the listed length, width, and thickness with your available bed space. The retail examples above differ considerably in stated measurements.
- Fill and cover: Read the materials listed for that model. For example, one seller describes cotton fabric and polyester fill; another lists polyester fabric and PP-cotton filling. These are product descriptions, not evidence of a health or comfort outcome.
- Cleaning: Check whether the cover is removable and washable, and whether replacement covers or refill material are available for the exact model. Theraline describes its Original pillow as refillable and offers replacement covers, but confirm compatibility before buying one: Theraline Original pillow.
The available product descriptions do not establish a universally best shape or fit, or prove that an hourglass contour relieves pain or improves sleep. Choose based on the model’s specifications and your own needs rather than assuming every pillow with this label performs alike.

Is an hourglass pillow the same as a nursing pillow?
No. The term “hourglass pillow” in the cited listings refers to an adult maternity body pillow. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) distinguishes maternity pillows—large body pillows intended and designed to support a pregnant adult during sleep or while lying down—from nursing pillows, which position and support an infant close to a caregiver during feeding.
