The Granny Stripe Blanket is built from repeating groups of three UK treble crochet stitches, with two rows in each stripe color. For the pictured Attic24 version, the designer specifies 18 100 g balls of Stylecraft Special DK and a 4 mm hook. The tutorial uses UK stitch names, so check the conversion below before starting: UK treble crochet is US double crochet.
What you need to know before starting

UK and US stitch names
The pattern is written in UK terms. UK double crochet (dc) is US single crochet (sc), and UK treble crochet (tr) is US double crochet (dc). Follow the UK stitch names when reading the tutorial; substituting the US name without converting it would make the stitches different.

Choose the width and prepare the foundation
The sample starts with chain 200, which follows the pattern’s multiple-of-3-plus-2 rule. To adjust the width, choose a foundation-chain count that remains a multiple of 3 plus 2. A wider blanket will require more yarn; the tutorial does not give a fixed extra-ball quantity for larger sizes.
Keep the foundation chain relaxed enough that you can work into it comfortably. If it is too tight, remake it using a larger hook for the chain, then return to the 4 mm working hook. Attic24 also suggests placing markers every 25 stitches to make the first-row count easier to check.

Work the first rows and establish the stripe repeat
After making the foundation chain, the first row is worked in UK double crochet. For the sample, work 199 UK dc, inserting one stitch in each chain from the second chain to the end.
Start the first granny row
Chain 3; this counts as the first UK treble. Work one more UK treble into the base of that chain. Skip two stitches, then work a group of three UK trebles into the next stitch. Continue skipping two stitches and making a three-treble group across the row. Finish with two UK trebles in the last stitch, as shown in the tutorial.

Repeat the two-row unit
On subsequent granny rows, work the three-treble groups into the spaces between the groups in the row below. At the far edge, anchor the row in the top of the turning chain as the tutorial directs. Rows 3 and 4 form the pattern repeat; work those two rows for each color stripe. The designer describes the unit this way: “The rows that you’ve just made (Rows 3 and 4) form the pattern repeat.”
You can use a single color or alternate colors. In the pictured striped approach, two rows make one stripe, so plan color changes around that two-row unit.

Keep the edges even as you work
- Count the first-row stitches carefully; markers every 25 stitches can help catch a count error early.
- Make sure each row begins and ends in the places specified for the turning chain and edge stitches. Missing an edge stitch can change the blanket’s width over successive rows.
- Do not judge the sides too soon. The designer notes that they may look a little wobbly before the ends are woven in and the border is added.
- If the fabric feels too loose or too tight, consider how your hook size affects tension and dimensions. A larger hook may make the blanket larger; a smaller hook can tighten a loose fabric. Check the fabric against your own preferred drape rather than assuming the sample dimensions will carry over.
Weave in the ends and add the border
Darn in all yarn ends before starting the border. Attic24’s base border round treats the blanket’s edges differently: the side edges receive groups of three trebles along the row ends, the corners use chain-2 turns, and the starting edge is worked according to its own placement instructions. Follow the tutorial’s placement guidance for each edge rather than applying the granny groups identically all the way around.
The border can help conceal slight wobble along the edges. For three additional edging rounds, the designer links to a separate Spot On Edging tutorial.
