To draw Amy Rose, start with a light circular head guide, place curved facial guides, then refine her hedgehog silhouette, outfit and expression. If you want to follow SEGA’s official lesson, note that it is specifically for Classic Amy, not a universal tutorial for every version of the character.

Choose a reference for the version you want to draw
SEGA’s official Sonic Channel lesson, published on March 17, 2023, is titled “Let’s draw Classic Amy” and is taught by Sonic Team designer Karasuno. SEGA’s Amy character page separates Classic and Modern character sections, but the reviewed sources do not provide a detailed drawing comparison between them. Use the official lesson when your goal is Classic Amy; for another version, work from a reference of that design rather than assuming the lesson covers it.
If you prefer a static reference, SEGA’s Amy Rose coloring page provides official line art to check the pose and silhouette. It is a reference image, not a step-by-step drawing lesson.

Draw Amy in a simple construction sequence
This beginner workflow combines the written construction advice from EasyDrawingTutorials’ Amy Rose guide with SEGA’s stated style goal. It is a synthesized approach; it does not claim that SEGA’s video follows these exact steps.
- Sketch lightly. Use a pencil and smooth, light strokes so you can revise early shapes without committing to them.
- Make a circular head guide. Add curved horizontal and vertical guides to help place the face. In the view shown by the beginner guide, the vertical guide sits toward the right side of the circle and the horizontal guide sits low; adjust these positions to suit your chosen pose.
- Block in the face. Use the curved eye guide to place the eyes, then add simple shapes for the mouth and visible ear. Keep these placements tied to the reference view: a different angle or pose will change where the features belong.
- Refine the silhouette and outfit. Compare your sketch with an official reference instead of relying on memory. SEGA identifies Amy as a pink hedgehog and her large Piko Piko Hammer is a useful recognition cue.
- Finish the expression. SEGA’s Sonic Channel lesson text says the key is to make Classic Amy look “gentle and cute,” while still acknowledging her spirited, self-directed side. Aim for warmth without making her expression feel passive.
Make the character recognizable without overcomplicating the sketch
SEGA’s Sonic Origins manual describes Amy as energetic, ready to join the action, and fond of wielding her Piko-Piko Hammer to help her friends. Those traits suggest a useful balance for the drawing: keep the face appealing and gentle, but let the pose or hammer convey energy. The manual is character context, not a set of drawing proportions.

Use references to check the particular details you are drawing rather than inventing exact proportions or color values from a verbal description. SEGA’s Classic Amy profile lists her height as 70 cm, but that is character-profile information, not a measurement to apply to the proportions of a sketch.
