To make a concrete heart necklace, mix fine-particle craft cement using its package directions, cast it in a small silicone heart mold, embed a pendant loop while the mix is workable, and let the piece dry thoroughly before demolding. Thread ribbon or a compatible chain through the loop; paint is an optional finish.
What you’ll need
- Fine-particle cement intended for small craft castings
- A small silicone heart mold
- Water and a plate or other mixing surface
- A spoon or mixing tool
- A small metal hairpin section or pendant loop for the necklace attachment
- Thin ribbon, or a compatible chain
- Optional: a paintbrush and metallic paint for decoration
Have the supplies ready before mixing. Cement products can have different mixing directions, so use the ratio and preparation instructions on the package rather than a general recipe. The [DIYS.com tutorial](https://www.diys.com/concrete-heart-and-star-necklace/) uses fine-particle cement, a silicone mold, a hairpin, ribbon, and optional metallic paint.
How to cast the concrete heart
- Prepare the loop. If using a hairpin, cut a short section and bend one end into a small loop. Leave the other end straight to embed in the pendant.
- Mix the cement. Follow the selected cement’s package directions for adding water and mixing. Do not assume another brand uses the same proportions.
- Fill the mold. Spoon the workable mix into the heart mold, leaving a little room at the top for the attachment loop.
- Set the loop. Carefully press its straight end into the fresh mix where you want the top of the heart to be. Keep the loop itself exposed so ribbon or chain can pass through it.
- Let the casting dry. Set the mold aside until the pendant is thoroughly dry, following the cement manufacturer’s directions. The drying schedule depends on the product; there is no universal time established for this project.
- Demold gently. Peel the silicone away from the heart and remove the casting once it is dry.
Finish the necklace
Attach ribbon or chain
Thread thin ribbon through the exposed loop and tie or finish it at the length you prefer. A compatible chain is another option; check that it passes through the loop without forcing or bending it.

Add optional paint
For a metallic accent, use a small brush to paint an outline or selected details, leaving some of the concrete visible. Let the paint dry according to its own package directions before wearing the pendant.
Choose an attachment that suits the pendant
An embedded loop is the method shown in the DIYS.com tutorial and makes it straightforward to thread ribbon through the heart. Before the cement sets, position the loop where the pendant should hang and leave enough of it exposed for the chosen necklace material. The available sources do not compare loop designs or establish which attachment lasts longest.

Other concrete-jewelry approaches include filling bezels or using molds, as discussed in [Beadaholique’s concrete-jewelry guide](https://www.beadaholique.com/). That is not a head-to-head durability test, so choose a method only if the selected cement’s instructions support the intended casting.

Do not substitute general concrete-curing schedules for directions specific to the cement used in a small jewelry mold. Follow the chosen product’s current package and safety documentation for handling and cleanup; precautions can vary by product.
