Check Canva’s official status page first: https://www.canvastatus.com/. Look at both the overall status and the component related to your problem: Canva can be broadly available while login, uploads, saving, downloads, or its mobile apps are affected. If the page reports no issue, compare Canva in another browser, device, or network before concluding that the service is down.
How to check Canva’s official status
- Open Canva Status.
- Read the overall service banner, then find the component that matches what is failing.
- Open any active incident and read its latest update and timestamp.
- If no incident is listed, compare your result with the incident history and test Canva from another browser, device, or network.
The official page tracks individual components, including the homepage, login and signup, media uploads, editing, saving, downloading, sharing, search, apps and integrations, mobile and desktop applications, website publishing, scheduling, and Canva AI services. The full component list can change as Canva updates the page.

Status labels describe the reported condition of a component, not necessarily every user’s experience. Operational means no known issue is reported; Degraded performance means the feature may be slow or unreliable; Partial outage means some users or functions are affected; and Major outage indicates significant unavailability. Maintenance indicates planned or active maintenance. Read the label and incident details rather than relying only on color.
For a technical check, Canva’s status API documentation is at https://www.canvastatus.com/api. Advanced users can request the status endpoint with curl https://www.canvastatus.com/api/v2/status.json. It is a programmatic view of the status page, not a separate guarantee that a particular user or feature is working.

Check the incident history for updates and timing
Visit Canva’s incident history to see past incidents, affected services, updates, and start or resolution times. It can help explain a recently fixed login, upload, download, or editing problem, especially if your browser or app is still showing an error after the incident changes to resolved.
Incident updates can progress through states such as Investigating, Identified, Monitoring, and Resolved. Monitoring means Canva is watching a change to confirm recovery; resolved means Canva has marked the incident resolved, but it does not ensure every cached session or regional connection has recovered immediately. History timestamps may be displayed in AEST, so convert them to your local time before comparing them with your own experience.
Use Downdetector as a second signal
Downdetector’s Canva page shows user reports, an outage chart, a map, and categories such as app, login, and website. Its signal reflects reports rising significantly above the usual volume for that time of day; it is not a direct measurement of Canva’s internal systems.
Rank #2
Use the official status page for Canva-confirmed incidents and component detail. Downdetector can help reveal a sudden wave of user reports before an official update appears, but a spike is not proof of a Canva outage: a regional internet-provider issue, app bug, browser problem, or recently resolved incident can also prompt reports. Social posts and forum comments are anecdotal, not confirmation.
Is Canva down for everyone or just you?
Compare the same failed action across environments. Change one variable at a time where practical, and note whether you are testing the website, an app, a particular account, or a particular design.
| What you observe | What it suggests |
|---|---|
| The official status page reports a major outage | A broad Canva service problem is likely; check the affected components and incident updates. |
| One component reports a partial outage | The problem may be limited to that feature rather than the whole platform. |
| The status page is operational but user reports spike | An emerging, regional, or not-yet-confirmed issue is possible; user reports alone do not establish the cause. |
| Only one browser fails | Browser data, an extension, or the signed-in session may be involved. |
| Canva fails on Wi-Fi but works on cellular data | The Wi-Fi network, DNS resolver, firewall, proxy, or internet provider is a stronger suspect. |
| The app fails but the website works | The issue may be specific to the app, its version, or the mobile environment. |
| Microsoft sign-in fails but another login route works | The identity provider or its Canva sign-in integration may be involved. |
| Canva opens, but saving fails | Saving, the connection, the account, or a backend component may be affected. |
| Only one design fails | Check that design’s access permissions and whether the problem is specific to its contents or size. |
| An incident is marked resolved but errors continue | Recovery may not have reached your session or region yet; cached app or browser data may also persist. |
Test a private browser window
Open Canva in a private or incognito window and try the same action. If it works there, the normal browser’s cookies, cached files, extension, ad blocker, privacy setting, or authenticated session may be responsible. Disable extensions temporarily or clear Canva-related site data in the normal browser, then test again.

Compare browsers, devices, and apps
Try a current version of another mainstream browser, such as Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari. If available, compare the desktop website with the mobile website or Canva app, or try another device. A failure limited to one browser or one app is less consistent with a complete platform outage.
Switch networks
Try cellular data, a mobile hotspot, or another permitted Wi-Fi network. Work and school networks may use firewalls or content filters that block required traffic. A VPN or proxy can also change the route Canva sees; temporarily turn it off only if your network rules allow it.
Separate account, login, and design problems
If the homepage loads but sign-in does not, test whether the issue is limited to a login method such as Microsoft-based sign-in. If you can enter Canva but one shared design is unavailable, check its permissions and whether another design opens. Billing or subscription access, a third-party integration, or a problem isolated to one unusually large or damaged design can affect an account or workflow without taking Canva down for everyone.

What to do when Canva’s status page says operational
Try these checks in sequence, stopping when the failed action works. They are diagnostic steps, not guaranteed fixes for every service or account problem.
- Refresh Canva once and retry the specific action.
- If the session appears stuck, sign out and back in.
- Close and restart the Canva app, if you are using it.
- Update the app through the relevant app store.
- Test in a private browser window, then in another browser.
- Clear Canva-related browser site data and test again.
- Temporarily disable extensions that can affect pages, scripts, privacy, or uploads.
- Temporarily turn off a VPN or proxy if permitted, then test another network.
- Compare another device and determine whether one design or all designs are affected.
- If an incident was recently resolved, wait a few minutes, reload, and retry.
Canva’s Help Center provides support categories and a way to submit a request: https://www.canva.com/help/. Canva’s guidance for unresponsive Canva AI also recommends checking the connection, refreshing the browser or restarting the app, clearing browser cache, and trying another browser or device; those steps can be useful for other loading problems but are not a universal repair.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What to do during a confirmed outage
- Do not repeatedly submit the same upload or payment while the result is uncertain.
- If you are editing, avoid repeated refreshes when unsaved changes may be at risk. Preserve local copies or screenshots where possible.
- Note the affected feature, exact error, and approximate time so you can distinguish a continuing problem from a new one.
- Follow the incident’s updates on the official status page instead of relying on rumors.
- Retry after the incident is marked Monitoring or Resolved, but allow time for your session or region to recover.
- If a deadline cannot wait, use a previously exported file or a temporary editor only if it supports the formats, assets, collaboration, and output you need.
Canva is cloud-based: seeing a cached page or an app screen does not mean saving, sharing, uploading, or downloading is working. A locally available view is not a substitute for confirming that the action you need has completed.
When and how to contact Canva support
Contact Canva through the Help Center if the issue persists after you have checked the relevant status component and tested another browser, device, or network. Include enough detail to make the failure reproducible, but never send your password.
- The account email associated with the problem.
- Device, operating system, browser and version, or Canva app version.
- Approximate time and time zone of the failure.
- Whether it affects the website, app, or both, and whether another network was tested.
- The exact error message and a screenshot with sensitive information removed.
- The design URL only if it is safe for you to share it.
A paid plan does not establish immunity from outages. Canva’s plans differ in features and support arrangements, but a subscription will not itself fix a Canva-wide incident, local browser problem, network block, or sign-in-provider failure; see Canva’s plan details for current terms.
