Yes. Procreate has a lasso-style selection feature, but it is called Freehand inside the Selection tool. On an iPad canvas, tap the ribbon-shaped Selection button in the top menu bar, choose Freehand, and trace or tap points around the area you want to select.
Where to find Procreate’s lasso tool
There is no separate button labeled “Lasso.” Look for the ribbon-shaped Selection button in the top menu bar; Freehand is the lasso-like mode in its toolbar. The official Selection interface guide shows the toolbar and its modes. That detailed interface page is for an older Procreate version, so labels or layout may vary.

How to use Freehand Selection
- Open an artwork canvas in Procreate for iPad.
- Tap the ribbon-shaped Selection button in the top menu bar.
- Choose Freehand.
- Trace around the artwork with a finger or Apple Pencil. For straight edges, tap the corner points; you can combine drawn curves and tapped points.
- Tap the starting point to close the outline, or choose another tool to begin editing. Moving diagonal shading outside the selected area indicates that the selection is active.
You can paint, smudge, erase, fill, or transform artwork within the selection. Tap the Selection button again to cancel and exit Selection mode. See Procreate’s Freehand Selection guide for more on drawing and closing an outline; that detailed page is also marked as an older version.
Which Procreate selection mode should you use?

Is Freehand the same as a lasso tool?
Freehand is Procreate’s lasso-like selection mode. It lets you draw a boundary or tap points to make polygonal edges.

Can I use Procreate Freehand Selection with my finger?
Yes. Procreate’s detailed Freehand instructions describe using either a finger or Apple Pencil.
How do I finish or cancel a Freehand selection?
Tap the starting point to close the outline, or choose another tool to begin editing. To cancel and exit Selection mode, tap the Selection button again.
