NIFT 2025 registration and the examination are over: regular applications closed on January 6, 2025, late applications ended January 9, and the exam was held February 9, 2025. The exam pattern depended on the programme: B.Des candidates took GAT and CAT, while B.F.Tech candidates took GAT. NIFT’s 2025 admission calendar listed a ₹5,000 late-registration surcharge in addition to the applicable application fee. The prospectus listed application fees of ₹3,000 for Open/OBC-NCL/Open-EWS applicants and ₹1,500 for SC/ST/PwD applicants; combined-programme applications had separate higher fees. Where to find the official application information
The exact historic application-form URL was not independently established in the official material reviewed, so it should not be guessed or presented as a working form. NIFT’s current Admissions page carried 2026-cycle materials at the time this article was researched. Applicants should follow the notice and prospectus for the cycle they are applying to.
For 2025, NIFT’s admission documents set out eligibility, programme rules, exam structure, fees and application instructions. The archived sources are the NIFT Admission Guidelines 2025 and the NIFT Prospectus 2025.
- Open the current NIFT Admissions page and select the relevant admission cycle.
- Read that cycle’s admission notice and prospectus before applying.
- Check the programme-specific eligibility, selection stages, fees and document requirements.
- Use only the application route specified in the current official instructions, and retain the completed form and payment proof.
NIFT 2025 exam pattern by programme
NIFT used a computer-based format for GAT and a paper-based format for CAT. The components and later selection stages varied by programme, so applicants needed to check the prospectus for their route. The table summarizes the broad 2025 structure described in the NIFT Prospectus 2025.

For B.Des and B.F.Tech, the prospectus listed 100 questions in GAT Section A: Communication Ability and English Comprehension (40), Quantitative Ability (20), Analytical and Logical Ability (15), and General Knowledge and Current Affairs (25). For candidates applying to both B.F.Tech and B.Des, it listed a 60-minute Section B with 50 questions: Quantitative Ability (15), Analytical and Logical Ability (15), and Case Study (20). The prospectus states that objective-type questions carried +1 for a correct answer and −0.25 for an incorrect answer. This marking rule should not be applied to descriptive CAT tasks. Check the relevant prospectus for exact eligibility and any exceptions.
How to prepare for GAT and CAT
Match preparation to the programme and test components. For GAT, practise the relevant objective-test areas listed in the prospectus. For CAT, practise observation, concept development, design and creative use of colour and illustration. These are the abilities the prospectus says CAT assesses. A sketching pencil set may be useful for practice, but it is not an official requirement or a statement about what candidates may bring into an exam.
