The Ocean Oasis Pillow is a free American Patchwork & Quilting pattern for a pieced, quilted pillow cover that finishes at 18 inches square. You make the cover and insert a separate 18-inch-square pillow form; it is not a ready-made stuffed pillow. The instructions were published by AllPeopleQuilt on July 22, 2021, and use teal, white, navy and green prints for a beach-inspired design.

Finished size and materials
The finished cover is 18 inches square and is designed for an 18-inch-square pillow form. Assemble the pieced top to 18.5 inches square, including seam allowances, before quilting and joining it to the back. The material quantities and cutting sizes below are from the AllPeopleQuilt pattern and assume 42 inches of usable fabric width. See the complete pattern and instructions.

The design uses teal and lime-green triangle-square units, white and navy Flying Geese units, teal and green rectangles, and a navy center square. The listed cutting pieces include two 6⅞-inch teal squares and two 6⅞-inch lime-green squares for the triangle-squares; white and navy 3½-inch squares for Flying Geese; teal and green rectangles measuring 3½ × 6½ inches; one 6½-inch navy square; and two lime-green backing rectangles measuring 11¾ × 18½ inches. The pattern allows 7-inch squares in place of the 6⅞-inch squares if you intend to trim the triangle-squares to size.

How to make the Ocean Oasis pillow cover
Use ¼-inch seam allowances. Follow the pattern’s cutting diagram and unit arrangement, keeping the color roles distinct so the geometric face reads clearly.
- Make four triangle-square units. Pair teal and lime-green squares, mark a diagonal on the wrong side, sew ¼ inch from each side of the marked line, then cut on the line. Press the resulting units open.
- Make the Flying Geese units. Sew white squares to teal rectangles for four white Flying Geese units, then use navy squares and green rectangles to make four navy Flying Geese units, following the pattern’s diagonal-sewing method.
- Assemble four side units. Join one white Flying Geese unit and one navy Flying Geese unit for each side section.
- Piece the pillow front. Arrange the side units with the four triangle-square units and the navy center square in three rows, then sew the rows together. The unquilted top should measure 18.5 inches square including seam allowances.
- Quilt the front. Layer the top with the 18.5-inch-square batting and muslin, then quilt as desired.
- Prepare the envelope back. On one long edge of each lime-green backing rectangle, turn the fabric under twice by ¼ inch and stitch the hem. Overlap the hemmed panels by 4 inches to make an 18.5-inch-square back, then stitch across the overlap.
- Join and finish. Place the front and back right sides together and sew around the perimeter with a ¼-inch seam. Turn the cover right side out through the envelope opening, press, and insert the pillow form.
Choosing fabrics or substitutions
The named original fabric collection is Dance in Paris by Zen Chic for Moda Fabrics, but the pattern’s color arrangement is the useful guide if you choose other quilting cottons: retain contrasting teal, white, navy and green roles so the triangle-squares and Flying Geese remain legible. Check the pattern’s yardage against the usable width of your fabric before cutting; its quantities are based on 42 inches of usable width. The source does not confirm current stock of the original collection.
