Seamly2D is free, open-source software for drafting and reusing garment patterns from measurement data. It supports both multi-size measurement files and individual measurement files, so it can suit standardized-size drafting as well as work based on a person’s measurements. Seamly2D is the drafting application; the related SeamlyMe application is for body measurements. Neither replaces the need to learn patternmaking or guarantees that a finished garment will fit.
What Seamly2D does—and what it does not do
The project describes Seamly2D as patternmaking software intended to make fashion drafting more accessible. Its central task is editable pattern drafting using measurement inputs, rather than browsing or downloading ready-made commercial patterns. The project publishes the software under the GPLv3+ license, as stated in its official repository.
Seamly2D is not an automatic fit guarantee: measurements and software do not remove the need to understand drafting choices, adjust a pattern, and assess the result. It is best approached as a tool for people willing to learn a dedicated patternmaking workflow.

How measurements fit into the workflow
The project distinguishes its two applications by role: Seamly2D drafts patterns, while SeamlyMe handles body measurements. Seamly2D patterns can read multi-size measurement files or individual measurement files. That supports two broad starting points: working with a standardized size set, or drafting from individual measurements.

Ideal for property managers, remodeling contractors, apartment turnover crews, maintenance teams, and commercial painting operations. Backed by thousands of verified reviews from working painters. Washable and reusable for multiple projects.
The project information does not establish a required import/export sequence between SeamlyMe and Seamly2D, so SeamlyMe should not be treated as mandatory. Choose the measurement approach that fits the work, then use Seamly2D to draft or refine the pattern.

- Consider it if you want an open-source drafting application and are prepared to learn patternmaking techniques.
- It may fit whether you plan to work from standardized multi-size measurement files or individual measurement files.
- Check first that your operating system is covered by the current project guidance and that you can tolerate learning materials that may lag behind the interface.
- Look elsewhere or adjust expectations if you want ready-to-wear patterns without drafting work, or a tool that promises a correct fit automatically.
A physical pattern drafting ruler can be useful when combining digital work with drafting or refining paper patterns, but it is optional and is not required to use Seamly2D.
