The xTool F1 is a compact dual-laser engraver for small items and marking jobs: it combines a 10 W blue diode laser with a 2 W infrared laser, but its documented work area is only 115 × 115 mm. That pairing is useful when your projects call for engraving different material types; it is a poor fit for large panels or batch layouts. xTool lists a maximum processing speed of 4,000 mm/s, a manufacturer specification rather than a promise of finished-job time. The F1 is also a Class 4 machine, so safe operation, suitable materials, and fume management are essential parts of the buying decision.
What the xTool F1 is—and what its specs mean
The F1 has two laser sources, used one at a time: a 10 W, 455 nm diode laser and a 2 W, 1064 nm infrared laser. xTool’s FAQ lists a 115 × 115 mm working area, maximum processing speed of 4,000 mm/s, dimensions of 179 × 235 × 334 mm, and weight of 4.6 kg. These are manufacturer specifications published in its F1 FAQ, updated August 29, 2023—not independent measurements or performance tests.

The 4,000 mm/s figure is a maximum processing-speed claim, not an estimate of how long a finished job will take. Artwork, material, settings, and the number of passes affect job time; the cited source provides no independent throughput benchmark.
Why the two lasers matter
The diode and infrared sources address different engraving needs. xTool says the diode engraves materials including wood, leather, acrylic, glass or ceramics, rubber, fabric, and slate; it lists the infrared source for engraving metals including gold, silver, copper, platinum, aluminum, and iron. The sources are not used together. These are broad material categories, not guarantees for every formulation, finish, or coated item.

What can the F1 engrave or cut?
Do not treat engraving compatibility as proof that a material can also be cut. xTool’s F1 product introduction separates its engraving and cutting materials. It describes diode cutting on paper, wood, leather, MDF, felt, and some dark opaque acrylic. Material thickness, formulation, and settings matter, so check xTool’s material guidance for the specific item and operation before starting.
For a small studio, the practical question is whether your typical piece fits within 115 × 115 mm and whether the appropriate laser supports the work. The area suits small objects and localized marks; it constrains larger flat pieces and batch layouts. xTool directs people who need a larger work area toward other product families in its F1 FAQ.

Is the xTool F1 the right machine for your work?
A reasonable fit
- You engrave small products, components, or craft pieces and can work within the 115 × 115 mm area.
- You need access to both diode and infrared engraving, and can choose the right source for each material.
- You can provide a suitable operating area, exhaust arrangement, and disciplined material controls.
- You may engrave cylindrical or other shaped objects and are prepared to verify the exact rotary attachment and F1 compatibility. xTool describes rotary modes for cylindrical, irregular, spherical, and ring-shaped items in its product introduction.
Look at a different format if
- Your regular work includes large panels, broad canvases, or layouts that need many pieces side by side.
- You need verified production throughput or independently established engraving quality before choosing equipment. The cited specifications do not establish either.
- You need a machine for materials or processes that are not covered by xTool’s material guidance, or cannot arrange safe exhaust and operation.
Safety is part of the purchase decision
xTool identifies the F1 as a Class 4 laser machine. Its safety materials explain that, under specified operating conditions, a closed enclosure, stable baseplate and exhaust pipe, and enabled “Stops when enclosure opened” function create Class 1 conditions during normal operation. That does not make every configuration or operating condition Class 1: lifting the enclosure or removing the baseplate during operation can allow diffused beams to escape, and openings or accessories can expose users to radiation above Class 1. Review xTool’s F1 Safety First guide and Laser Safety Officer training before use.
Materials and fumes
xTool’s official safety instructions, updated June 19, 2025, state: “Do not engrave or cut any material that contains PVC or vinyl (processing plastics is not recommended).” The guide warns that PVC, vinyl, and other chlorine-containing materials can create corrosive vapor, while other materials can release harmful smoke. Do not process unknown materials. A purifier or exhaust setup does not make an unsuitable material safe.

Workspace and maintenance
The F1 has a smoke outlet and can connect to an exhaust pipe or purifier, according to xTool’s FAQ. Plan ventilation and fume management before operating it. Keep the work area clean: xTool warns that residues and chippings can create a fire danger. The same safety guide says the machine is not user-serviceable, so do not treat internal repair as routine owner maintenance.

The F1 is not the F1 Lite. xTool says the F1 has diode and infrared sources, while the Lite has only a diode source; their power adapters are not interchangeable. Confirm the model and adapter rather than relying on a listing or accessory description that says only “F1.” See xTool’s F1 and F1 Lite comparison.

Rotary attachments can expand the shapes you work with, while compatible material samples may help with initial trials. xTool’s product introduction shows rotary applications such as tumblers and mugs, and its F1/F2 material kit page lists sample materials and says the kit is suitable for F1/F2. Verify attachment compatibility, package contents, and availability for the exact bundle you are considering. xTool notes that package contents vary; an RA2 Pro or purifier may be selected in other packs.
Verdict
The xTool F1’s clearest appeal is the combination of diode and infrared engraving in a compact machine. Its small 115 × 115 mm work area is the main practical constraint, while its Class 4 designation makes safety setup and material selection non-negotiable. It makes sense for appropriately equipped users focused on small items and marking; it is not the choice to make for large-format work or on the assumption that a maximum speed specification guarantees production output.
