The Simple Sashing and Rectangles Quilt is a scrappy, orderly design built from large print rectangles, brown floral rows, and aqua sashing. The published quilt finishes at 58-1/2 × 81-1/2 inches. Its layout gives large-scale prints room to show while the sashing separates each piece.

Pattern overview
American Patchwork & Quilting describes the quilt as inspired by Rectangle Reverie, designed by Monica Solorio-Snow of Happy Zombie. The pattern page credits Kathleen Williams as quilt tester and was updated May 18, 2026. The accompanying PDF carries the issue label Quilts and More Winter 2010 and a 2010 Meredith Corporation copyright; these are separate publication details, not evidence that the pattern originated in 2026. See the pattern page at American Patchwork & Quilting.

The design uses aqua, lime, and cocoa prints in an orderly scrappy arrangement. A color-option caption describes an alternative with bold florals and graphic prints for a candy-shop effect. Because the pattern supplies one layout and one finished size, changing the palette or scale is an adaptation rather than a tested variation.

Materials and fabric requirements
The yardage is based on 44/45-inch-wide, 100% cotton fabric. Measurements include 1/4-inch seam allowances; sew right sides together unless the pattern notes otherwise.
| Material | Amount | Pattern use |
|---|---|---|
| Assorted print fat quarters | 10 fat quarters, each 18 × 22 inches | A rows |
| Brown floral fabric | 7/8 yard | B rows |
| Aqua tone-on-tone fabric | 2-1/8 yards | Sashing and binding |
| Backing fabric | 5 yards | Quilt backing |
| Batting | One 67 × 90-inch piece | Quilt interior |
Choose prints with enough contrast against the aqua sashing for the rectangle layout to remain distinct. Large-scale novelty prints or florals can be a good fit for the broad rectangles, though the pattern does not prescribe a particular print scale or palette beyond its sample color direction.

The large rectangles are the visual focus; the contrasting narrow sashing creates separation and structure between them. Coordinating the print colors with the aqua fabric helps the scrappy assortment read as a composed whole. The pattern does not formally state a skill level, so use the detailed cutting and row-assembly steps—not an assumed rating—to judge whether the project suits your experience.
