A “Songkran sign” could mean a greeting to put on a poster, a sign for a celebration, or a printable design. For a simple, fitting message, use “Happy Songkran” or “Happy Thai New Year.” Songkran is Thailand’s traditional New Year celebration; there is no established official sign wording or standard sign size.

What to write on a Songkran sign
“Happy Songkran” is a concise greeting used on an example Thailand photo-booth printable. The listing glosses it as “Happy Thai New Year.” It also includes “Welcome to Thailand,” which works as a welcome message rather than a direct New Year greeting. These are examples, not required or official phrases.
- Happy Songkran — a short festival greeting.
- Happy Thai New Year — an English greeting that makes the occasion clear.
- Welcome to Thailand — suitable for a welcome display or photo area.
Songkran brings together cultural traditions and public water festivities. The Tourism Authority of Thailand describes family, respect, renewal, merit-making, water-pouring rituals for elders, and temple visits as part of the celebration; it is not only a water fight. UNESCO has recognized Songkran in Thailand as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, according to the TAT’s 26 March 2026 announcement.

Printable Songkran sign: what the example includes
One Catch My Party listing offers a downloadable photo-booth PDF with an 8×10-inch sign. It is a digital file, not a physical sign shipped to the buyer. The listing recommends printing on thick cardstock at home or through a print shop. The 8×10-inch measurement describes that particular file, not a Songkran standard; no official design, required wording, or canonical sign dimensions are established by the cited sources.
If you are making your own sign, choose a size that suits where it will be displayed and how far away people need to read it. Use a short headline, strong contrast, and lettering large enough to see at the intended distance. For an outdoor celebration, consider a way to protect the paper from splashes; the cited listing does not establish weatherproofing or outdoor suitability.

Songkran dates vary by place and event
Songkran is celebrated across Thailand, but local event dates and formats can differ. The TAT announcement published 26 March 2026 said celebrations were planned across every region that year and listed Bangkok-wide events from 9–15 April 2026. Those dates describe the 2026 program, not one fixed annual date range for every location or a guarantee for future years. Check the destination’s current event information before printing a sign with dates or venue details.
In that announcement, TAT Governor Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool said: “We are aware that global events have created uncertainty for travellers. We want to be clear: Songkran 2026 will take place as planned across every region of Thailand. The spirit of this festival and Thailand’s welcome remains unchanged.” This was a statement about the 2026 celebration.

Keep signs separate from travel and event rules
A sign greeting people at a celebration does not establish what items are allowed at an event or on a flight. For example, Thailand’s Government Public Relations Department published flight guidance on 9 April 2025, attributed to Airports of Thailand: toy water guns should go in checked baggage; scented water may be carried in containers of no more than 100 ml, subject to an overall one-liter liquids limit; and spare batteries and power banks should be carried in cabin baggage. These are dated passenger guidelines, not sign requirements. Check current airline, airport, and event rules before travelling.
