The Squares and Strips Table Runner is a quilted runner that finishes at 26-1/2 × 74-1/2 inches. Its pattern combines three types of pieced blocks with strip sets, borders and a quilted, bound finish. The original instructions, published by AllPeopleQuilt on June 14, 2013, specify cotton fabrics and give the yardage and batting dimensions below.

Finished size and block measurements
The finished runner measures 26-1/2 × 74-1/2 inches. Each block finishes at 6 inches square; the pieced blocks measure 6-1/2 inches square before joining, with seam allowances included. The assembled runner center, before borders, measures 18-1/2 × 54-1/2 inches. AllPeopleQuilt’s pattern gives the project measurements and construction instructions.

The pattern calculates yardage for 44/45-inch-wide, 100% cotton fabrics. Its materials list is:

The backing and batting are separate from the listed fabric for the pieced top and binding. The specified batting dimensions provide a larger piece than the finished runner so it can extend beyond the quilt top during assembly.

The instructions include seam allowances in the stated measurements and call for sewing with right sides together unless noted otherwise. The construction sequence is:

- Cut 2-1/2 × 11-inch strips and sew them into two strip sets. Cut those sets into 2-1/2-inch segments.
- Make additional small square-and-rectangle segments for the block units.
- Combine the segments into three block types, each measuring 6-1/2 inches square before joining.
- Arrange the blocks into a central unit and two side units. Join them to form a runner center measuring 18-1/2 × 54-1/2 inches before borders.
- Add the light gray inner border. Piece red, black and gray rectangles for the short-end outer borders, and join strips for the long-side outer borders.
- Layer the completed top with batting and backing, baste, quilt as desired, and bind using the remaining pieced strips.
Choose a quilting thread
The pattern suggests light-color thread for subtle quilting, or black-and-red variegated thread for more visible emphasis. These are styling options in the pattern, not claims about how a particular thread performs.
