The “Wool Pumpkin Bag” is a small felted-wool swing bag with a pumpkin appliqué, designed by Debbie Busby. The pattern’s finished size is 7-3/4 × 10-3/4 inches. Its construction uses hand-appliquéd wool pieces, blanket stitching and a braided-cording strap.

What the Wool Pumpkin Bag pattern makes
AllPeopleQuilt published the project on August 13, 2014. It specifies a finished bag measuring 7-3/4 × 10-3/4 inches. The front features a pumpkin, stem, leaves and vine appliquéd to a black wool foundation, which is then attached to a green bag panel. The green front and back are joined along the sides and bottom, leaving the top open.

How the bag is assembled
Prepare the wool
AllPeopleQuilt instructs makers to prepare wool by machine-washing it in a hot-water-wash, cool-rinse cycle with a small amount of detergent, machine-drying it on high heat, and steam-pressing it. This is the publisher’s preparation instruction; the project page does not present it as an independently tested result.
Make and attach the appliqué
Cut two green bag panels and one black appliqué foundation. Arrange the orange pumpkin pieces and brown stem on the foundation. The instructions use blanket stitch for the appliqué, backstitch for the leaves, and running stitch for the vine. Attach the decorated foundation to the front green panel.

Join the bag and add the strap
Use blanket stitch to join the front and back panels around the sides and bottom, keeping the top open. The strap is made from three 48-inch lengths of cording: knot and braid them, then attach the braided strap at the sides. The project’s materials list specifies four yards of cording in total.
