The Star Dust Baby Quilt is a free patchwork pattern with a star block set in a field of printed strips. The finished quilt measures 36 1/2 × 42 1/2 inches, and its star block finishes at 16 inches square. The pattern, published by AllPeopleQuilt on July 1, 2024, lists the fabric, batting and construction details below.

Fabric, batting and finished size
The pattern’s yardages and cutting instructions assume 42 inches of usable fabric width. Gather these materials:
- One fat quarter of white moon print.
- One 10-inch square each of dark pink, yellow and white space prints.
- 3/8 yard each of pink planet and light blue fabrics.
- 3/8 yard each of dark blue space, dark blue moon and medium blue space fabrics.
- 1/2 yard of fabric for binding.
- 2 1/2 yards of backing fabric.
- One 45 × 51-inch piece of quilt batting.
The pattern specifies the batting dimensions, but does not name a fiber, brand or loft. It gives the quilt’s finished size as 36 1/2 × 42 1/2 inches and the finished star block size as 16 inches square.

How the quilt top is constructed
Piece the star block
The star uses triangle-square units and solid squares around an 8 1/2-inch white space-print center. The listed pieces for the block include four 4 7/8-inch white moon-print squares, four 4 1/2-inch white moon-print squares, and two 4 7/8-inch squares each of dark pink and yellow print.
To make the triangle-square units, pair the specified 4 7/8-inch squares, mark a diagonal, sew on both sides of the line, and cut the pairs apart. Join the pink and yellow units to form the star points, following the pattern’s layout and pressing directions.

Add the surrounding strips
The outer design is assembled from 2 1/2-inch-wide strips in lengths of 8 1/2, 12 1/2 and 36 1/2 inches. Arrange the pink, blue and light-blue prints in the pattern’s stated sequence, then join the strip units around the star block to complete the top. Use the pattern’s 1/4-inch seam allowances and pressing instructions; where no direction is specified, it says to press toward the darker fabric.
Finish the quilt
- Layer the quilt top, batting and backing, then baste the layers together.
- Quilt as desired. The pattern does not prescribe a quilting motif.
- Bind the quilt using five cut binding strips, following the pattern’s finishing instructions.
Choosing substitute fabrics
The original palette uses space-themed novelty prints. If those fabrics are unavailable, choose substitutes with a similar contrast between the white center and the colored star and strips. Consider print scale as well: a large novelty print can read differently in small pieced units than it does in a broad strip. These are practical substitution considerations, not alternatives endorsed by the pattern.
