The YouTube notification bell controls which alerts you want from a particular channel. On mobile, you can choose All, Personalized, or None; desktop instructions describe switching between All and Personalized. These are channel preferences, not a promise that YouTube or your device will deliver a push notification for every upload.
What the YouTube notification bell does
Subscribing to a channel normally starts you with Personalized notifications. The bell beside Subscribed changes that channel-level setting. You can also find notifications already received by opening the bell at the top of YouTube, or find recent uploads in the Subscriptions feed.
YouTube says notification settings can differ slightly by device, and not every new upload results in a notification. The bell setting is only one part of delivery: YouTube account preferences and your phone, tablet, or browser permissions also matter.

What All, Personalized, and None mean

YouTube may limit notifications, and if you have not watched or engaged with a channel for a while, All notifications may be available only in the app. YouTube’s creator guidance also describes exceptions for notifications beyond daily limits. All is therefore a preference category, not a delivery guarantee.
How to change a channel’s bell setting
On Android or the YouTube mobile app
- Open the channel page or one of its videos. Subscribe if you have not already.
- Tap the bell beside Subscribed.
- Choose All, Personalized, or None.
To manage other YouTube alert types, open your profile picture, then go to Settings → Notifications. Menu details may vary by device. Also check the phone’s Android or iOS settings to make sure notifications for YouTube are allowed.

On a computer
- Subscribe to the channel if needed.
- Click the bell beside Subscribed to switch between All and Personalized.
- To allow desktop alerts, check YouTube’s Settings → Notifications and your browser’s notification permission. YouTube’s desktop instructions specifically refer to Chrome.
If YouTube’s desktop notification option is missing, the browser may not be allowing notifications. Browser menus and labels can vary.
Why YouTube notifications may not arrive
Check the setting at each layer; changing the channel bell cannot override a blocked app or browser permission.

- Confirm the account. Make sure YouTube is open under the account that subscribed to the channel.
- Check the channel bell. Open the channel and verify it is set to All or Personalized rather than None.
- Check YouTube preferences. On mobile, go to Profile picture → Settings → Notifications and review the alert types you want.
- Check device or browser permission. Enable YouTube notifications in Android or iOS settings, or allow desktop notifications in the browser.
- Consider YouTube’s delivery limits. All does not ensure a push for every upload; some alerts may be visible only in the in-app list.
Cases where the channel setting cannot be changed
- Made for Kids audience: YouTube says these channels cannot send notifications. The bell shows a locked None setting. Its desktop Help page states, “You won’t get notifications if a channel’s audience is set as made for kids.”
- Unsubscribed and subscribed again: YouTube resets the channel preference to Personalized or None, so check the bell after resubscribing.
What creators can learn from bell notification analytics
YouTube Studio offers channel-level and per-video notification metrics when a channel has enough subscribers for the cards to appear. The subscriber card distinguishes between subscribers who selected All and those who selected All and enabled YouTube notifications for their Google Account and device. The second group is narrower because selecting All does not itself enable account or device alerts.
For an individual video, the Bell notifications sent card appears in Reach when the channel has enough subscribers. YouTube defines this as notifications sent to subscribers who chose All and enabled YouTube notifications on their account or device. Related metrics mean different things:

- Notifications CTR: the percentage of recipients who clicked a notification.
- Views from bell notifications: viewers who clicked a notification and immediately watched. It does not count someone who saw the alert and watched later.
YouTube says the Reach card can distinguish app notifications from email updates. Subscriber bell metrics update daily with a two-day delay, show current values only, and have no historical view. Notification traffic is just one source of views, alongside Home, Up next, and Search; a low bell share alone does not establish that a channel is underperforming.
